Things started out fairly promising: Cold, but not raining.That changed in a hurry.This shot was taken by your warm and dry photographer from inside the warm and dry trailer. Couldn't risk getting the camera wet. Or cold.Some of the younger kids haven't quite learned what it means to get run over by bigger, faster racers. We sent them to the back before the gun went off.A beautiful day to watch a race in Southern California. As the day wore on, the temperature actually dropped.Volunteer Kylie Donia off the bike and heading for the pool. "So it's raining. So what? Gonna get wet anyway."Josh heading into T2. Only injuries were from people falling while trying to walk on the wet pavement on their bike cleats. Oh, one other one: EE member Earl got run over by a wheelechair racer. Seriously. We don't even know where to begin trying to describe that one.The coach kept her socks on for the run to the pool. Better grip.Hard to see anything through the mists rising off the water. Here's Vianey with about 75 yards to go.Coach Cherie guides her to the finish. The clock doesn't stop until you hand in your number.The pool was the warmest place at the venue.Old team member Arturo showed up to help out. Swears he's going to actually participate in the next race.Afteward, it was off to a special treat...A barbecue at the home of our great friends and volunteers, Mike and Kylie Donia.Our gracious hosts cooking up the vittles.Trying to warm up.A little business: Writing checks to pay Foundation bills (Cherie), and looking over photos from the ESA event in San Diego the weekend before (Jacque).At last, the payoff after a tough day.
