EE Newsletter: October 26, 2015

Friends:

A couple of cool things to tell you about the kids, but first: You might want to take a little side trip to Babbittville, on-line home of radio host and Ironman Hall of Famer Bob Babbitt. Bob interviewed Cherie on the air Sunday night about her remarkable final Ironman World Championhip race and the roots of EE.

Click here for a delightful 20-minute conversation well worth a listen.

On to EE news...

Arian Mayorga - All of ten years old, Arian won first place in a county-wide American Legion Americanism Essay contest.

Challenged Athletes Foundation - Our annual trek to La Jolla for CAF's biggest event of the year was a memorable one. The kids trained all summer in preparation for competing for the rights to make the trip. The lucky winners got to mix it up and run with hundreds of physically challenged athletes who were helped back in to the game of life by this remakable foundation (co-founded by the aforementioned Bob Babbitt).

First, a dip in the hotel spa for Sam, Eric, Arian, Israel and Abigail:

We were joined by EE old-time and soon-to-be
UC San Diego graduate Marlene Samano:

Then it was off to David & Lorena Brenner's for pizza dinner.
Here are Eric with his new friend, Sophia Brenner, and Abigail with Jake.

The kids early next morning with CAF spokeman and long-time friend of the kids, Rudy Garcia-Tolson

Arian with NBA legend Bill Walton

...plus one (a little later):

Tram Road Challenge - Toughest little race you could imagine: Only 3.7 miles but 2,000 vertical feet of climb. Race producer Greg Klein always takes great care of the kids, and we had 30 of them there this year, with plenty of podium finishes.

The sun hitting the peak at dawn makes it look like the tram towers are heading into fire.

One of the top finishers, 6-year-old Ahris!

Diana with the Coach

The brothers Mayorga and Olivares.
The Olivares boys are an school with Ahris and he gave them the racing bug.

Our guys walked away with a lot of hardware.

Ahris broke his own 6-and-under course record from last year.

A splendid time was had by all!
